Rockford Register Star Tuesday, July 27, 1999 Excerpt from a column by Pam Gleichman of Computer Kids Web Site of Week: RockfordLink http://www.rockfordlink.com "RockfordLink serves the Rockford/Northern Illinois, Southern Wisconsin area by providing as much local information as possible for residents and visitors. You will find information about local events (fairs, On The Waterfront, etc.) entertainment, school information, homework helpers, shopping, weather, maps, jobs, restaurants, health care, churches, bus schedules, TV listings and much more. There are links to churches, attorneys, health care professionals and classified ads. This is a great site to find out just about anything you need to know about the area." | Rockford Internet News August 1999 Published by the Rockford Area Chamber of Commerce
Local business/information link is growing
It's kind of like seeing your teen-aged cousin for the first time in five years. My gosh you've grown! Rockfordlink.com at http://www.rockfordlink.com has taken giant strides in increasing their coverage of local data sources and sales opportunities.
RockfordLink has grown to become a nearly encyclopedic source of information, The site also has links to information about county fairs, On the Waterfront, and nearly anything else you can think of. The beauty of a site such as this is that a webmaster generally doesn't even have to have permission to put a link to a site on his or her page. After all, the link just takes the viewer to a site that has already been opened to the public. In the past year the content has truly ballooned.
If you want to know who was born on this day in 1485, Rockford Link is a good place to start. If you want a list of nearly all of the attorneys in the state, it's there. Advertising opportunities are also available, but at the moment the ads appear to be sparser than the wealth of information, which is designed to bring folks to the site, where they will incidentally read the ads. Could this be the beginnings of the newspaper for the 21st century? A sign of things to come.

RockfordLink offers a lot of local content in one place
Business listings, hobbyists, civic organizations are all found in the RockfordLink lists.
About three weeks ago a new service appeared on the Rockford scene. Bob Kinnison, who in real life is Vice President of Settlement Options (CNA Insurance) and a member of the Winnebago County Board, has started a new service called http://www.Rockfordlink.com
The purpose is two-fold, if you are in northern Illinois or southern Wisconsin, it is a great place to come for "local things."
The site offers a wide variety of links to Internet Search Engines as well as local content that could best be described as classified ads for various local businesses.
I'm trying to get links to the most important sites," Kinnison said.
"The purpose of this site is to provide information, both locally and to anything on the internet. If you want to find an attorney or a pizza or what's on TV tonight you can do it with RockfordLink. My goal is a year from now is to get about 5,000 hits per week, just based on what I know abut other similar sites and the response thus far." |
